I was shocked at how well this worked! I saw this pinned on Pinterest a while back and decided to give it a try. Best. Decision. Ever. Try this, now.
Mix Peroxide and water (Equal amounts) in a cup then rinse for one minute. (The solution I saw on Pinterest was pure Peroxide, but I've heard that was damaging, so I added water. It still works)
Swish through every nook and cranny. Rinse with water to remove the taste. It's yucky.
Now, Mix toothpaste, water, and Baking Soda in a small bowl...
Brush with the mixture for another minute. I did this 5 times (once a week), and saw the same results as a professional whitener… [Do not continue as a daily routine] Smile, baby!
That is so cool! Gonna have to try that today!

I've actually found it best to rinse with the water and peroxide, then put the toothpaste on my brush like normal, then dip it in baking soda... super easy!
DeleteAlthough this may get good results it will damage your teeth. I work at a dentist office and we tell patients NEVER to do this! It can cause you to need extensive work done at a later date due to the damage.

DeleteI think I've heard enough to be convinced that it's not damaging… I have talked to a few dentists and dental hygienists who have said it's not… If it sounds as though it would be damaging to you, I'd advise not using it.
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely okay to use it! However, I work for an oral surgeon (we are the blood and guts of dentistry- so we see it all!) and it would be more beneficial if you cut down the amount of hydrogen peroxide. We say a few drops mixed in water would be just fine. Using more can lead to nasty sores in the mouth. Just an FYI, if it works for you keep on keepin' on, if not we will see ya soon!

ReplyDeletehmm… I have no clue. I know when I had my braces, my orthodontist told me not to whiten with bleach because the spots when the brackets were glued would be a different shade when the braces came off… You may want to talk to your orthodontist! Good luck!

DeleteDid you use this in moderation? Sometimes people get stingy with the fast results! I'm a certified dental assistant & always taking emergency calls of people panicking about these things. It's the same with peroxide, if you use it as an oral rinse & don't dilute it, or rinse to long with it, it will make your gums white and very sore. Relates to when people eat a lot of salt our sour candies it makes your mouth blister & sore! I recommend using a soft brush (you should never use firm/hard or medium bristles) and don't brush hard!
DeleteI've rinsed for a couple weeks with straight peroxide morning and night and I've had 0 issues. Every person has their own opinion on how to do this or that. If general concensis of a bunch or dentists are saying this is ok and when you go to the drug store and look on the back of the FDA and ADA approved teeth whitening strips read the ingredients and the first ingrident is water? Then it says hydrodiengen peroxide I do feel as though we are all "in the clear" there is serious testing that happens before these products get their stamp of approval.

ReplyDeleteI do not recommend rinsing with hydrogen peroxide unless it is seriously diluted and never on a long term basis. Hydrogen peroxide denatures (kills cells of the body). It is fine to use on the teeth only, which is why it is ok to use bleaching strips or trays, because it is a gel that is only applied to the teeth and does not come into contact with much of the soft tissue of the mouth. I am a dental hygienist and I have seen MANY people who have tried these "old wives tales" bleaching treatments and have to spent thousands of dollars on restoring their teeth because they have ruined them by brushing with abrasive pastes! Don't do it!

ReplyDeleteI just tried this today. I will try it once a week for a month and see how it goes. As for those who are saying this is damaging, the Hydrogen Peroxide bottle says it is safe to use as a mouth wash up to four times a day. Of course some people are going to be more sensitive than others, but obviously this should be a safe and natural method for most people. I would much rather try this method than a chemical whitening.

Yes they both are inexpensive items found in most everyone's home and they both work to whiten the teeth (to some extent), but at what cost to the patient's ongoing health? At some point, the few pennies saved now using a home remedy will quickly turn into a HUGE dental bill later because the dentist will have to replace your worn enamel will a more expensive treatment with Veneers (which must be replaced every 5-10 years and it's NOT easy or CHEAP!!). Just something to think about!
