How to Revive Old Nail Polish

Ever had a bottle of nail polish that was almost empty?
or crusted over? or stuck to the bottom? or maybe the brush is stiff?
Here's the solution:

Use a medicine dropper to add 3 or 4 drops of polish remover and shake vigorously!
Now, it's ready to use again ;)

    2. Think about it, nail polish remover is meant to destroy the nail polish on your fingernail. Why would you add it to your polish?

Use nail polish thinner, it will restore the chemicals that evaporated from your polish.

    3. Actually Nail polish remover is just a solvent that will liquefy your nail polish again so you can "remove" it onto your cotton pad/cotton ball. It doesn't destroy anything.

    4. I agree with the OP of this comment! Oh gosh, this blog post is wrong in SO many ways. Remover will eat away at the pigment and chemicals in your polish, separating/destroying everything and RUINING IT.

The reason your polish is thick or gloopy is because the chemicals that keep it smooth have evaporated over time from having the bottle open during use, not keeping the threads clean (so you end up with a poor seal on the cap), and just natural evaporation. Nail polish THINNER is made of the chemicals that have evaporated from your polish, which is why it properly and safely restores your polish to its original consistency. You can pick up a bottle of Beauty Secrets Thinner from Sally's for around $3 (it's inexpensive).

If you want to destroy your own polish, that is your prerogative. Just don't go recommending using remover to others when you obviously are not informed in this particular topic.

    5. That's very nice and VERY informative. Possibly too informative for nail polish. If I had read this before trying it, I might have decided not to, but to say that is RUINS the polish is just not true… I've used it for YEARS... Never one bad experience. Never had to throw a bottle of polish because it was ruined.

  2. The point of this is to avoid having to buy the polish thinner. It works perfectly. I've been doing it for years and it does not destroy the polish. The amount I use isn't enough to destroy any aspect of it, only thin out the thick globs along the bottle.
Don't use it if you do not want to use it. I didn't think I would have to state that as a rule. I'm simply saying it works for me.

  3. The nail polisher remover does work beautifully - I've been doing it for over 20 years and concur that it does not destroy the polish! And if we're wearing nail polish, we need the remover, why spend more money?

  4. I have tried this on a couple dark colors of nail polish (dark red and medium green), and it seems to work fine for that, but I decided to try it on a much loved top coat that was almost empty and it turned out very clouded and sticky. So, I would not recommend to not try it on topcoats, or Seche Vite in particular.

  5. it can go either way. i put some in my sheer sparkly polish and it just kinda sat on top of it. when i put the polish on, it is dry and crusty looking on my nails. i have done it before and it worked perfectly. i think it is just another option for those who didn't know about nail polish thinner. until pinterest...i didn't!

  6. Just simply a great way to save $$$ :-) I have thrown out many bottles in the past not knowing this, i read this on another blog a few months ago and tried it because my nail polish bottles were 3/4 full and i didnt want to throw them away. Tried it on 2 bottles worked awesome.4 tiny drops is not going to deteriorate a thing! some people just like to argue and well they arent saving any $ if they are buying thinner. :-)
