Shine a Little Light
After long, hard days at work, Micah gets home pretty beat up and worn out. Like I always say, I have to get his spirits up… I've always called this "Shining a little light on him." My old fashioned mindset leads me to believe that this is actually part of my job… I don't think he understands it fully, and probably thinks I'm a weird-o. Who cares, that's why he loves me, right?
Last night, while I was getting ready for bed, Micah went outside to smoke. He came back in quickly, walked to the bathroom where I was brushing my teeth, and asked, "When's the last time you saw lightning bugs?" I said, "Never, I've never seen a real one!"
He grabbed my hand and took me outside just in time to see a swarm of fireflies in my neighbors tree. They were absolutely beautiful. In my 21 short years of life, I have never seen a real firefly. They were almost magical. I didn't have time to get my camera, nor did I feel like walking away from the moment… but they looked pretty much like this...
I couldn't help but get all girly and give him a kiss under the lightning bugs. This gave a whole new meaning to my "Shine a little light" saying. I wish I could have caught one. What made it even more special was that yesterday marked the beginning of my "Birthday Week."
See, I have celebrated 4 birthdays alongside Micah… every one of which he had to work for. So, this year, to make it up to me, I get a whole week to celebrate! Last night, he bought me Now-n-Laters (one of my favorites) and watched Pretty in Pink with me. The lightning bugs were the icing on the cake for the first day of the celebration. It was one of those "catch a feeling in a jar" kind of nights. I'll be re-living it for a while.
